Description:

Python is an open-source scripting language that is growing in popularity as a front end for engineering computation. Python offers many of the same capabilities as proprietary alternatives (e.g. MATLAB) while avoiding licensing issues for code users. The goal of this workshop is to introduce students to Python syntax and modules relevant to basic numerical engineering.

The course will introduce Python using a series of examples. The Python topics to be covered are

• Print statements, variable assignment, and variable types,

• interactive vs scripted coding,

• if, else, while, and for syntax,

• iterable containers, and

• importing packages.
